August 25, 2005 - Sacramento, CA - Four Yee bills pass Senate Floor with strong bipartisan support.

Today, the Senate passed all four of Assemblymember Leland Yee's acupuncturist bills that were up for vote.

This was a huge victory, but only one more battle over in the process of getting the bills to the Governor to sign them into law.

Note: According to legislative staff, AB 1113 would have gotten more "Yes" votes, except that each time the vote was called, there was a committee meeting in another room for some Senators, so all Senators did not have a chance to vote on AB 1113.

Also, according to legislative staff:

- The Little Hoover Commission has written a letter to the Governor stating that AB 1113 and AB 1114 are in compliance with its recommendations.

- Ten Republican legislators have signed a letter of support to the Governor for AB 1113.

- Hundreds of letters of support to the Governor for the bills and the Acupuncture Board were collected as a result of Monday's rally.

- Many legislators contacted Leland Yee requesting information on AB 1113 and as a result of Monday's rally.

- All four bills must go back to the Assembly for concurrence on the amendments made in the Senate. That should happen within one week. Then, the bills will be sent to the Governor, where we must encourage him to sign the bills.

Assemblymember Yee, CAOMA's board members, staff, lobbyists - as well as the hundreds of supporters - did a tremendous job on behalf of the acupuncturist profession, patients, and future patients of acupuncturists.

Thanks to everyone for all of your support!
