June 28, 2005 - Sacramento, CA - A brief note from CAOMA lobbyist Sandy Carey reminding us that our battles are still not over.

Sandy Carey

Congratulations! The Senate Business, Professions and Economic Development Committee met yesterday afternoon for the purpose of hearing several bills, not the least of which were the five measures relating to accupuncture authored by Assemblymember Leeland Yee.  As you know, CAOMA has been fully involved in the support of these measures, engaging in activities to educate members of the profession and other professional groups as to the importance of this legislation, discussing the legislation with all members of the Assembly and the Senate in an effort to win the sometimes reluctant support and "aye" votes, lobbying members of the Committee and their staffs and combating the negative influences of the opponents of these bills.

State Capitol Building
All and all, CAOMA's efforts paid off yesterday, for the final votes on the five measures passed all but one bill our of the Committee.  The passed bills now will advance to the floor of the Senate for a full house vote.  We will continue to advocate for these four remaining bills to ensure their safe passage to the Governor's desk and will work with the Administration to ensure that the Governor signs them into law.

How supporters can participate in the near future:

Prepare to make phone calls and write letters of support for AB 1113, 1114, 1115, and 1117 to your State Senator.
Prepare to send a letter to the Governor regarding the continued need for an independent Acupuncture Board.

We will inform you when and where to write your letters.

Sincerely,

Sandy Carey,
Galati & Blek LLP
