June 2, 2005 - Sacramento, CA - CAOMA to meet with LA Times political journalist to rebut article.

CAOMA has arranged to interview with Los Angeles Times political journalist Jordan Rau next week regarding his recent article that was critical of the Acupuncture Board and of the profession. The article contained factual inaccuracies and did little to put the issues into proper context. CAOMA contacted the Editors of the LA Times to voice our concerns about the incompleteness and inaccuracies contained in the May 30 article, and to state our opinion that the article only serves to lend credence to unsubstantiated reports that there may be safety issues concerning the acupuncturist profession, and that the article will damage the credibility of the profession.

It is CAOMA's position that a superficial inspection of the tainted 2004 Little Hoover Commission report and the inaccurate 2005 Joint Legislative Committee on Boards, Commissions, and Consumer Protection led Mr. Rau to believe in the veracity of Senator Liz Figueroa's claims against the Board. CAOMA will be providing Mr. Rau with some more accurate background material and documents that would seem to contradict much of the allegations contained in those reports.

Meanwhile in the state capitol.....
State Capitol CAOMA's lobbyists continues to seek amendments to existing legislation that will extend the Acupuncture Board's sunset date beyond the current July 1, 2006. SB 233 would have moved the date up to January 1, 2006. CAOMA's lobbyists have held meetings with legislative leadership in order to find a compromise solution.
