April 7, 2005 - Sacramento, CA - CAOMA submitted letters of sponsorship and support for California Assemblymember Leland Yee's five acupuncture-related bills, AB 1113 - AB 1117, while Senator Figeuroa offered to co-author AB 1113.

Today, CAOMA submitted letters of support and sponsorship to Assemblymenber Yee for his five acupuncture bills, AB 1113 - AB 1117.

Today, after reviewing recently posted news on CAOMA's website, including information that CAOMA was concerned about backroom negotiations between the staff at the Joint Committee and staff at the Acupuncture Board regarding matters that could severely impact our profession, staff from Senator Figueroa's office contacted CAOMA's lobbyist for clarification about the concerns.

Today, Senator Liz Figueroa's staff contacted staff at Leland Yee's office, offering to co-author AB 1113, which will codify diagnosis as an authorized service performed within an acupuncturist's scope of practice. Assemblymember Yee is reported to have accepted the offer, and Senator Figueroa should be listed as co-author in the newly amended bill. This is a particularly positive change, in light of the fact that all of these bills will eventually be assigned to the Senate Business and Professions Committee, which the Senator chairs, and where her support would be very helpful. Additionally, this could be a sign that the Senator is coming around to accept the expert opinions and historical references presented by CAOMA and credible California practitioners rather than the tainted and questionable background information that has been presented by competing interests.
